Sales soon expanded into the suburbs of the GTA and the company expanded, as well, when Tony Pateropoulos and Edward Standish became partners with David in 1989. They shared similar values and each helped grow specific areas of the company.

Edward is credited for having taken charge of the production division and for establishing and maintaining uniform standards of workmanship that set Avenue Road Roofing apart from competing roofers. Tony led sales & marketing and was the driving force behind the significant sales growth that ultimately made Avenue Road Roofing the #1 roofing company in the GTA.

LIGHTING PLANS

Question:  How can I establish a lighting plan for my home that is both practical and goes with the style of the room?

Answer:  Lighting is one of those subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, details that can make or break the entire look and feel of a room, and yet is most often overlooked in a decorating plan. Like any aspect of interior decorating, planning for lighting takes skill and know-how.   Three basic guidelines must first be considered:
1. the function of each room
2. the mood to be created
3. harmonizing various lighting types in a room

Both task and ambient lighting are required for basic room functions. Bedrooms and living rooms require different lighting solutions than kitchens and bathrooms.  Sufficient lighting can be acquired in rooms up to 12’x12’ with one ceiling light or four recessed lights about 40” from each corner.  A larger rectangle room is evenly lit with recessed can lights, while supplemented with table and floor lamps or wall sconces. Kitchens and bathrooms, on the other hand, require more lighting attention. Lighting levels must be high enough to safely and comfortably perform tasks.  All work areas should be well lit to avoid shadows and provide an even spread of light.

Mood lighting can be added to a room in a number of ways: by lighting decorative objects such as paintings and sculptures, backlighting plants and special furniture pieces, and then by adding light to any remaining dark areas.

For harmony, there should always be variety in fixture types, light direction, and in the height and intensity of different lamps.  This can be as simple as having both an upward shining torchière floor lamp and a shaded downward shining table lamp.

As you can see, lighting involves more than just flipping a switch! Many aspects should be considered when planning for professional and proper room lighting.
